Sometimes you really don’ t have to go far to enjoy everything nature has to offer. I’ve dreamed of visiting the lavender fields in France, but just have not had the time to get there. For now fields of sunflowers will have to do. We are blessed to live within driving distance of 2 free sunflower fields. The best sunflower field and my favorite is Clear Meadow Farms which boasts endless fields of sunflowers. There’s different parts of the field where the sunflowers are tall and other areas are shorter sunflowers.
I believe it was $1 per stem to buy the sunflowers, but it’s not pick your own. The best part is that peak bloom is actually early September and not July and August. Because, honestly no one in the DC Metro area wants to be outside in the swamp that is DC, Virginia, and Maryland in July and August. We’re all hiding in our houses in our prized air conditioning. And there’s always plenty of parking at the farm.
The other location I’ve heard rave reviews for is Mckee Beshers Wild Life Area. This field goes into bloom in July and August and I’ve never made it because it’s just too hot outside! It’s currently not in bloom anymore, but not to worry just head over to Clear Meadow Farms in September.
Now what better way to enjoy these sunflowers than in a floaty white maxi dress! But that maxi dress really got caught in everything so for more mobility I changed into this short boho dress from Free People. Got to be practical!
So if you missed the July and August sunflower blooms, it’s not too late to see these beautiful fields. If you’re in the DC area put it on your calendar to go to Clear Meadow Farms! You won’ regret it and plus you won’t be sweating buckets.
