From my previous post you know I’m obsessed with lace, pretty much anything lace. Usually white lace. But as I popped off the elevator at Platinum Shopping mall on my last trip to Thailand, this red lace dress immediately caught my eye.
What struck me was the exact likeness to the Self Portrait lace dress (the Azaelea to be exact) I’d been lusting after but had not pulled the trigger yet. It was almost exactly the same. And the quality? Well it was impeccable, the seams were neat, the zipper was sturdy, the lace was a gorgeous cotton, the lining had that delicate quality that you see in expensive items. And the fit, well it fit like a dream, perfect. If you have ever shopped in Asia though you know the sizes run small. I’m normally and XS in most items, in Asia usually the smallest size is S and that’s pretty much the same as the XS in the States. Now I couldn’t just buy one dress, because they carried it in my favorite colors, blush and white! No I pulled out my baht and walked out with all three!
In my defense though I didn’t buy the lace dress immediately, I came back for it about a week later after seeing the same dress in a little side walk boutique after a delicious omakase with friends, it was definitely more expensive than Platinum. Platinum is definitely a bargain hunters dream, I’m planning on doing a full review later, so stay tuned.
Now back to this Self Portrait inspired Azaelea dress, did I mention the lace is like a dream…okay maybe I did. I paired it with these flat gladiators that I bought last year from Forever 21 while I was pregnant to give it a bit of edginess and to casual it up a bit. The white sunnies really pop with the red for that art deco coolness. And to up the coolness factor and for practical purposes of having a giant iPhone 6, I carried my vintage envelop clutch.
Going to Thailand is obviously not an option for most so I’ve decided to share almost the exact same dresses below.
Dress Thailand, exactly the same one here, here, and here
Gladiator Sandals Forever 21 from last year, similar here, here (only $20!) and here
Sunglasses Random Boutique similar here, here, and here
Clutch Vintage, similar here
I am in love with this dress and the red lace. The white sunnies are a perfect complement to this outfit and the dressed down gladiators makes this a winning ensemble. I am all for finding cheaper versions of dresses especially since they aren’t everyday basics. Excellent find! xoxo, Christine
