We did a little Maryland winery tour this year because of the pandemic.  All our favorite wineries in Maryland that you have to visit.

When you think of a winery, Maryland doesn’t necessarily come to mind!  But we actually have quite a few wineries in Maryland.  Some of these vineyards in Maryland are actually quite beautiful surrounded by pretty mountains!

So if you are looking for something to do this weekend or a little weekend trip from Washington DC, this list of wineries in Maryland will get you started!

Springfield Manor Winery in Maryland

Springfield Manor is a stunning winery and vineyard in Maryland!  This place is absolutely gorgeous.  It’s surrounded by beautiful mountains and overlooks a field of lavender in the summer.   springfield manor lavender

They have a beautiful stone patio with chairs, tables, and umbrellas for you to enjoy your wine and view.

Springfield Manor Winery definitely scores all the points for ambiance and view, but their wines could use some work. I had the sav blanc and my husband had a cab.  Both were kind of awful, unfortunately.

They do also specialize in lavender gin and have sangria available.  Those might be better but we didn’t have a chance to try them. The best time to visit is in late June or early July for their beautiful lavender field.  Or visit in the fall for amazing fall color!

Location:  11836 Auburn Rd, Thurmont, MD 21788

Hours:  Saturday & Sunday 12-6pm (Springfield Manor does not require reservations)

Windridge Winery in Poolesville Maryland

Windridge Winery in Maryland kind of has it all!  It’s super close to Washington DC, about a 30-minute drive (it’s right next to McKee Beshers), has amazing views, and excellent wine! windridge winery maryland

We reserved a picnic table here, but you can just walk in and put down a picnic blanket.  They offer flights of wine so you can taste before you commit to a bottle.  We did a flight of white and a flight of red here and both were great!

Our favorite was the Reisling however, which was on the dryer side and not so sweet while being extremely fragrant.

They are open pretty late so I’d stay here for sunset!  It is spectacular!

And bonus they do allow both dogs and children.  Windridge does get crowded quickly though because it’s in Montgomery County, so either come early or make a reservation.

Location:  15700 Darnestown Rd, Darnestown, MD 20874

Hours: Wednesday: 12:00 pm – 6:00 pm Thursday: 12:00 pm – 6:00 pm Friday: 12:00 pm – 8:00 pm Saturday: 12:00 pm – 8:00 pm  Sunday: 12:00 pm – 6:00 pm (Windridge requires reservations for seating at their picnic tables or on their patio, but you can just bring a picnic blanket and sit on their lawn)

Rocklands Farm Winery in Montgomery County Maryland

You may have already heard of Rocklands Farm Winery, The Real Housewives of Potomac filmed here!  This is the Maryland vineyard where they had the infamous fight between Candice and Monique.

I added Rocklands to the list because it’s a favorite in MOCO!  Everyone loves it here and I can see why.

It is a super cute winery complete with a red barn and farm animals.  Also it is super close to Washington DC, about 30 minutes (right next to McKee Beshers).

Rocklands is also about 10 minutes down the road from Windridge Vineyard, so you could definitely combine the 2 and make it a day trip from Washington DC.

They are known for their Sungold wine, which they produce using a method similar to making red wine, thus resulting in an “amber” or “orange” wine.

I was super excited to try this wine but we never made it here when we were at Windridge!  Also, they don’t allow dogs.  It’s still on my list to visit this winter or spring!

Location:  14531 Montevideo Rd, Poolesville, MD 20837

Hours:  December-March Rocklands is open Friday 12-9pm, Saturday & Sunday 12-6pm (You do not need a reservation but they are taking reservations up to two weeks in advance for heated tent tables (up to 4 guests) or outdoor fire pit areas (up to 6 guests), book here).

Catoctin Breeze Vineyard in Frederick Maryland

Catoctin Breeze Vineyard in Maryland is probably the furthest one from Washington DC, but it’s worth the drive.  Catoctin Breeze was awarded “Best Winery” in Frederick Magazine’s “Best of Frederick” contest, two years in a row, and I can see why!

This Maryland vineyard is the epitome of laid back vibes!  We came here on a Saturday and there was plenty of outdoor seating and tables for everyone.  They even have hay bails you can sit on.

We enjoyed perfect weather with a perfect bottle of red surrounded by gorgeous mountains. We even got some fall color!

Bonus just down the street here is a cute covered bridge.  Definitely worth a stop if you are in the area.  The covered bridge is Roddy Road Covered Bridge in Frederick Maryland.

Hidden Hills Farm & Vineyard in Maryland

I’ll admit that during my Maryland winery tour we didn’t have time to stop here, but it’s still on my list.

This place looks amazing and gets all the points for views.  We drove by and it sits on a huge hill surrounded by mountains.  Plus there’s a horse farm!!

Hidden Hills Vineyard is definitely on my list to visit this spring!  If you’ve been here let me know if you liked it!

Location:  7550 Green Valley Rd, Frederick, MD 21701

Hours:  Thursday 3pm – 7pm, Friday 11am – 7pm, Saturday 12pm – 7pm, Sunday 11am – 5pm (Hidden Hills does not require reservations)

Lone Oak Farm Brewery Olney Maryland

Lone Oak isn’t a winery but a brewery in Maryland!  But they don’t just have beer, they have hard seltzer too.

What I love is that you can rent Moroccan style yurts here for your party.  These tents are gorgeous and look like the fancy ones you see on Pinterest for glamping.  They are also heated so you won’t freeze in the winter.

Personally, the yurts are what sold me on this!  I’m not a huge beer drinker, especially micro-brews because they tend to be on the hoppy side, which I hate.

We did flights of beer and seltzer at Lone Oak Farm and they were all pretty good!  You can make your own flights by selecting any 5 beers or seltzers from their menu.  We basically tried them all and they were all good.  The lichi seltzer was one of our favorites though.

Lone Oak also serves light snacks but there are food trucks on-site and you can bring your own food.

When you reserve a Yurt you get about 1 hour in it and it comes with a server.  You can order drinks and food from Lone Oak’s menu through your server.

The Yurt rental was $120 with a max of 6 people.

Location:  5000 Olney Laytonsville Rd, Olney, MD 20832 (Lone Oak does not require a reservation for their outdoor tables but you do need a reservation for renting their yurts and fire pits, book here).

Wednesday & Thursday: 3pm-8pm
Friday: 3pm-9pm
Saturday: 11am-9pm
Sunday: 11am-8pm
